Gaetz Victorious in Push for Increased Test Range Funding
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, in an amendment to the Make America Secure Appropriations Act, Congressmen Matt Gaetz (R-FL-01), Neal Dunn (R-FL-02), Tom Rooney (R-FL-17), and Francis Rooney (R-FL-19) were able to secure additional funding for Florida’s military test ranges. This funding increase is extremely important for America’s armed forces, and will enhance military readiness, development, and testing capabilities.
When asked about the passage of this amendment, Rep. Gaetz said: “America’s military readiness depends on proper training. America’s heroes need to be trained on up-to-date technology, so they are prepared for any threats they may encounter. But even though our military technology has been developing rapidly, our test ranges are not. At the Gulf Test Range in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, over 80 training flights per year are canceled because of congestion and airspace limitations. Increased funding to test ranges will give the men and women of our armed forces the space and resources to train with next-generation equipment, which will help prepare them in their future missions.”
Congressman Gaetz has pushed for increased funding for military test ranges since his arrival in Congress, where he quickly developed a reputation for dedication to America’s servicemen and servicewomen. “My Florida colleagues and I know the importance of proper training for our military,” Rep. Gaetz said. “Earlier this year, we sent a letter requesting additional funding for test ranges, so our troops could be as effective as possible. I am grateful to Chairman Thornberry of the House Armed Services Committee, and all my colleagues who supported this crucial increase in funding.”
The funding will be included in H.R. 3219, which will now go to the Senate for approval.
