Congressman Matt Gaetz Issues Statement in Support of Vice President’s Announcement to Impose New Sanctions on Venezuela

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) issued the following statement today in response to Vice President Mike Pence’s announcement that the Trump administration will be imposing new sanctions on Venezuela in an effort to increase pressure on Venezuela’s socialist President Nicolas Maduro. The decision was announced in a speech given to the Organization of American States (OAS) earlier this afternoon.

“I fully support the Trump administration’s call to remove Venezuela from the Organization of American States. Maduro’s Socialist regime promotes human rights abuses, rampant corruption, and a rigged election process that directly violates the OAS’s mission to promote peace and justice. The time has come for the U.S. to leverage our greatest diplomatic tools in order to force change in Venezuela’s oppressive government,” Rep. Gaetz said.
